The ‘Hub’ | Shady Hill School

In collaboration with Lisa Hillson Interiors.

As the importance of crossdisciplinary, experientially-focused S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) grows, schools are focusing increasingly on what a S.T.E.A.M. program means spatially. Architecturally, the primary focus for The Hub Shady Hill School was on designing a space that promotes cross-disciplinary interaction.

The design also includes an outdoor classroom and green roof, and its large, open interior spaces provide labs, classrooms, offices, and a large meeting/community venue. In addition, the project involved a cost-effective renovation of an existing gymnasium to meet the school’s budget and siting needs.
